EXTENDED: Buchanan County I-229 Double-Decker Bridge closure

St. Joseph, Mo. – Crews from the Missouri Department of Transportation have extended the closure of the I-229 Double-Decker Bridge from Highland Avenue to U.S. Route 36 in St. Joseph which began this morning, Wednesday, Nov. 15. A need for repairs to the northbound right-hand driving lane of the bridge surface were identified and crews will begin concrete replacements tomorrow morning, Thursday, Nov. 16.

Both southbound lanes of the bridge were expected to reopen tomorrow, Nov. 16 at 8:30 a.m., but will now remain closed through 3 p.m. Crews expect to reopen the northbound right-hand driving lane on Friday morning, Nov. 17.   

Motorist will need to seek an alternate route during the continued closure.  All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.
