Upcoming Impacts to I-57, Route 62 in Charleston for Bridge Rehab

SIKESTON—Work to rehabilitate the Route 62 overpass over Interstate 57 in Mississippi County will soon get underway. This section of roadway is located from mile marker 11 to mile marker 13 near Charleston, Missouri.

The bridge rehabilitation will be completed simultaneously with the roadway widening work that is currently underway. Throughout construction, Route 62 will be reduced to one lane with an 11-foot width restriction. Temporary signals will be in place to guide traffic through the work zone.

It will be necessary to close the Route 62 overpass and shift I-57 traffic to utilize the interchange ramps as contractor crews remove a portion of the bridge deck.

Weather permitting, this work will take place nightly from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10 through Monday, Nov. 13 and Friday, Nov. 17 through Monday, Nov. 20. During these times, the Route 62 overpass will be closed, and I-57 traffic will be diverted to utilize the interchange ramps to avoid traveling under the bridge. The ramps will have a 12-foot width restriction.

Right in/right out maneuvers will be permitted to allow access to local businesses. A signed detour will be in place for motorists traveling to Charleston.

Completion of the project is anticipated in August 2024.

The work zone will be marked with signs. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area.
