MoDOT to Hold Winter Weather Drill Oct. 18 and 19 and Press Conference Oct. 19

CHESTERFIELD – In preparation for the upcoming winter season, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will hold its annual winter operations drill Oct. 18 and 19 and press conference on Oct. 19.

During the drill, MoDOT snow vehicles will travel highways and state routes throughout the St. Louis area starting at 10 a.m. on both days.  A press conference will also be held on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 10 a.m. at the Ballas Maintenance Facility, 12001 North Forty Dr. 63141.

During the press conference MoDOT leadership, along with staffers from the National Weather Service, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Illinois Department of Transportation, will brief the media on predictions and preparations for the winter season.

Fighting winter storms to get Missouri roads clear is one of the most critical functions of MoDOT.  With every storm, every available snowplow operator will work 12-hour shifts covering 24 hours until the major roads are mostly clear after a storm ends.

When winter storms are in the forecast, MoDOT will communicate advance traveler information.
