Missouri Route 149 in Macon County to Close for Bridge Replacement Project

HANNIBAL – Weather permitting, October 16, work is scheduled to begin on a bridge replacement project located on Missouri Route 149 over Walnut Creek, 1.2 miles south of Missouri Route 156 near Gifford, in Macon County. Weather permitting, anticipated completion of the new bridge is scheduled for late January 2024.

The Missouri Department of Transportation closed MO 149 at this location on July 10, 2021 following flooding that washed out a section of roadway and a large box culvert. Due to frequent flooding and ongoing issues with debris from upstream wooded areas, it was decided that a bridge, rather than a culvert, was necessary at this location. However, when flood damage occurred, the department lacked the necessary resources and time frame to prepare bridge plans for a construction start in summer 2022, so the project was rescheduled for 2023.

E & C Bridge, LLC was awarded the contract last month in the amount of $788,629.
