Truman Boulevard bridge over U.S. Route 50 closing Monday

10-day closure for bridge rehabilitation work begins 1 a.m. Oct. 9

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo – Construction crews, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will close Truman Boulevard over U.S. Route 50 in Jefferson City starting at 1 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 9. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes for the 10-day closure.

Approximately 15,000 motorists use the overpass daily and repairs are necessary to extend the life of the bridge. For the safety of the traveling public and the construction crews, the overpass bridge will close to all traffic for up to 10 days. All ramps to and from U.S. Route 50 will remain open. Message boards were installed on Sept. 18 near the bridge to give motorists advanced warning of the closure.

The signed detour directs southbound Truman Boulevard traffic to use U.S. Route 50 west to Big Horn Drive, then south to the U.S. Route 50 eastbound ramp, to then use U.S. Route 50 east to the Truman Boulevard exit. Northbound Truman Boulevard traffic is directed to use U.S. Route 50 east to Route 179, then north to the U.S. Route 50 westbound ramp, to then use U.S. Route 50 west to the Truman Boulevard exit.

Work on the Truman Boulevard overpass bridge will include replacing the expansion joints, repairing the concrete, and applying a protective coating. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the $665,875.75 contract – which also includes work on the Cole County Route D bridge over U.S. Route 50 – to E & C Bridge, LLC.

All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.
