Update: Caldwell County Route 13 resurfacing project

Closed to all traffic north and south of Tom Creek Bridge beginning Friday

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Route 13 in Caldwell County has been closed to through traffic from Mill Creek Drive in Hamilton south to Kingston since early May for a resurfacing project. Beginning Friday, Sept. 15, the roadway will close to all traffic, including local traffic, north and south of the Tom Creek Bridge. Contractors from Phillips Hardy, Inc., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will fully close Route 13 near the bridge in order to complete paving and pour the new approach slab on both ends of the bridge, while also allowing time for the concrete to cure. The closure is expected to remain until early October before reopening to local traffic only.

By contract, all work on the Route 13 resurfacing project must be completed no later than Dec. 1, 2023, or the contractor could incur liquidated damages for each day the project goes beyond the contract completion date. However, if it is determined the next phase(s) cannot be completed before inclement weather, construction will shut down for winter restoring access to Route 13.

Any other remaining work will resume in the spring of 2024.

During the continued closure, a detour is in place directing motorists on U.S. Route 36, Interstate 35, Route 116 and Route 13 around the closures. The contractor will maintain access for local traffic; however, increased delays should be anticipated.
