ST. LOUIS – Drivers who use westbound Interstate 44 (formerly I-70) through downtown to get to south St. Louis city or other southern destinations will need to allow extra time or consider alternate routes, as crews will close a portion of the interstate this weekend.
Crews will close all lanes of westbound I-44 between the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge and Washington Avenue to paint girders and install drainage on the Broadway bridge over the interstate. Crews will close all lanes and ramps starting Friday, August 25 at 8 p.m. The interstate will reopen Monday, August 28 by 5 a.m.
When WB I-44 reopens on Monday, drivers will still have one through lane closed on westbound I-44 between the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge and Washington through mid-September. At the same time, crews will open the I-70/44 express lanes heading into downtown, including the exit ramp to Broadway.
To detour around the weekend closure, drivers will exit eastbound I-70 at Tucker Avenue (Exit 249B). Follow Tucker through downtown to Lafayette. Drivers heading to westbound I-44 can turn right on Lafayette and turn left to enter the westbound interstate. Drivers heading to southbound I-55 can remain on Tucker until it becomes Gravois (Route 30) and turn left to enter the southbound interstate.
