JACKSON COUNTY – Crews will make the following traffic changes as part of the Interstate 435 bridge over 87th Street beginning on Monday, Aug. 21. More details about this project can be found here. All work is weather permitting.
- Northbound I-435 will be reduced to ONE LANE at 87th Street for traffic pattern reconfiguration beginning at approximately 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21 until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22.
- Southbound I-435 will be reduced to ONE LANE at 87th Street for pavement marking reconfiguration beginning at approximately 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21 until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22.
Once this work is complete, southbound I-435 traffic will be directed over the new bridge at 87th Street. The left lane of southbound and northbound I-435 at 87th Street will remain closed 24/7 while construction progresses.
The existing bridges, constructed in 1967, are nearing the end of their service lives and need to be replaced. Construction is anticipated to be completed by Fall 2023. Construction work will require the following traffic changes.
Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
