JACKSON AND CLAY COUNTIES – Crews with the Buck O’Neil Bridge project will make the following closures and traffic pattern changes, July 15-22.
This work will cause impacts to traffic and motorists are advised to plan ahead, leave early, or consider alternate routes if possible. There will also be the following traffic changes listed below. All work is weather permitting.
Saturday, July 15
Beginning at approximately 12 a.m. crews will make the following CLOSURES pavement and sign work.
- RESCHEDULED for July 22: Crews will CLOSE Eastbound I-70 at southbound I-35 until 7 p.m. for pavement and sign work. Traffic will be diverted onto southbound I-35.
- Crews will CLOSE Ramp from southbound I-35 to westbound I-70 until 7 p.m.
- Crews will CLOSE the two left lanes of westbound I-70 at I-35 to Beardsley Road until 7 p.m.
- Crews will CLOSE the ramp from Independence/Admiral to Westbound I-70 until 7 p.m.
At approximately 7 p.m. crews will make the following traffic pattern change
- RESCHEDULED for July 22: Beginning at 7 p.m. crews will close the right lane of eastbound I-70 at Broadway Blvd. for approximately 40 days for pavement widening work.
- Beginning at 7 p.m. crews will close the right lane of westbound I-70 at Broadway Blvd. for approximately 40 days for pavement widening work. – Rescheduled from the week of July 10
Monday, July 17
- Beginning at approximately 9 a.m. crews will close Woodswether Road at Broadway Blvd. until 4 p.m. for bridge work.
Tuesday, July 18
- Beginning at approximately 9 a.m. crews will close Woodswether Road at Broadway Blvd. until 4 p.m. for bridge work.
- Beginning at 6 a.m. crews will close southbound Richards Road at Harlem Circle until 5 p.m. for bridge work.
Wednesday, July 19
- Beginning at approximately 9 a.m. crews will close Woodswether Road at Broadway Blvd. until 4 p.m. for bridge work.
- Beginning at 6 a.m. crews will close southbound Richards Road at Harlem Circle until 5 p.m. for bridge work.
Thursday, July 20
- Beginning at approximately 9 a.m. crews will close Woodswether Road at Broadway Blvd. until 4 p.m. for bridge work.
- Beginning at 6 a.m. crews will close southbound Richards Road at Harlem Circle until 5 p.m. for bridge work.

The current Buck O’Neil Memorial Bridge is a triple arch bridge carrying U.S. Route 169 over the Missouri River, and serves as a key regional connection between downtown Kansas City and communities north of the river. While safe, the bridge is nearing the end of its projected service life.
