JACKSON AND CLAY COUNTIES – Crews with the Buck O’Neil Bridge project will CLOSE the right lane of both eastbound and westbound Interstate 70 at Broadway Blvd. beginning at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12 (revised from July 11), for approximately 40 days. This closure is for pavement widening work and will REDUCE I-70 to ONE LANE in each direction. This work will cause impacts to traffic and motorists are advised to plan ahead, leave early, or consider alternate routes if possible. There will also be the following traffic changes listed below. All work is weather permitting.
Wednesday, July 12
- Beginning at 4 a.m. crews will close the right lane of eastbound I-70 at Broadway Blvd. for approximately 40 days for pavement widening work. – Revised from July 11
- Beginning at 4 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, crews will close the right lane of westbound I-70 at Broadway Blvd. for approximately 40 days for pavement widening work. Revised from July 11
- Crews will close Woodswether Rd. at Broadway Blvd. beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, until approximately 4 p.m. for bridge work.
- Beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, crews will close the left lane of northbound U.S. 169 over the Missouri River until approximately 3:30 p.m. for bridge work.
Thursday, July 13
- Crews will close Woodswether Rd. at Broadway Blvd. beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, until approximately 4 p.m. for bridge work.
- Beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, crews will close the left lane of northbound U.S. 169 over the Missouri River until approximately 3:30 p.m. for bridge work.
Friday, July 14
- Crews will close Woodswether Rd. at Broadway Blvd. beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 14, until approximately 4 p.m. for bridge work.
The current Buck O’Neil Memorial Bridge is a triple arch bridge carrying U.S. Route 169 over the Missouri River, and serves as a key regional connection between downtown Kansas City and communities north of the river. While safe, the bridge is nearing the end of its projected service life.
