Update: Caldwell County Route 13 resurfacing project

South city limits of Hamilton to north of Route HH in Kingston

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Concrete paving on Caldwell County Route 13 is anticipated to begin next Friday, July 7. Contractors from Phillips Hardy, Inc., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will complete the project in three phases. The project has been delayed due to equipment issues and is now expected to be complete in December 2023.

During each phase, the roadway will be closed for a concrete overlay of the road and shoulders, guardrail replacement and placement of pavement markings. A detour is in place directing motorists on U.S. Route 36, Interstate 35, Route 116 and Route 13 around the closures. The contractor will maintain access for local traffic during each stage of construction, however, increased delays should be anticipated.

Crews plan to work weekdays during daylight hours following the below schedule.

Stage 1:

  • May through mid-August.
  • CLOSED: Mill Creek Drive to Route P.

Stage 2:

  • Mid-August through late September.
  • CLOSED: Route P to Far West Drive.

Stage 3:

  • Late September through December.
  • CLOSED: Far West Drive to north of Route HH in Kingston.

A project to replace the Route 13 bridge over U.S. Route 36 at Hamilton began in late May. Contractors from Capital Paving & Construction, LLC, working with MoDOT, have closed the bridge to all traffic during construction which also impacts access to Route 13 at, and south of the bridge. This project is anticipated to be complete in August.
