Reminder: Total intersection closure of MO Route 58 and Prairie Lane begins TODAY, May 30

CASS COUNTY – Crews began making intersection improvements along MO Route 58 and Prairie Lane on Monday, May 15. This project includes the construction of a new roundabout in the area and will require various lane, shoulder, and intersection closures. All work is weather permitting.

  • Beginning at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, crews will CLOSE the intersection of MO Route 58 and Prairie Lane until approximately late August 2023. During this time, motorists will need to follow the signed detour or seek alternate routes.
    • Detour information:
      • Travelers going northbound or southbound on I-49 or MO Route 291 will be detoured using MO Route 58 to MO Route 150.

roundabout is a one-way circular intersection that channels traffic around a central island without traffic signals. Roundabouts are a great alternative to a signalized intersection when a high volume of traffic needs to get through with the least amount of inconvenience. While signalized intersections have 20 conflict points, or spots where vehicles could collide, roundabouts reduce that number to eight. Fewer conflict points, combined with slower speeds and calmer traffic, can translate into as much as 75 percent fewer crashes. Because roundabouts tend to have fewer severe crashes than signalized intersections, they have fewer crash-related injuries as well.  Learn more about roundabouts here.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
