UPDATE-Traffic Alert: Lane and ramp closures scheduled for Southbound I-29/I-35 at 16th Avenue

Closures scheduled through August 2023

CLAY AND JACKSON COUNTIES - Crews are completing bridge rehabilitation work over Bedford Avenue and various railroads north of the Missouri River. This work requires the following lane and ramp closures on southbound Interstate 29/Interstate 35 at 16th Avenue through August 2023. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes if necessary. All work is weather permitting.

Traffic changes in place through August 2023:

  • Crews will CLOSE one lane of southbound I-29/I-35 at 16th Avenue through approximately August 2023 for bridge repairs.
  • Crews will CLOSE the ramp from 16th Avenue to southbound I-29/I-35 through approximately August 2023 for bridge repairs.
    • The signed DETOUR route in place is northbound Linn Street to eastbound Armour Road/Missouri Route 210 to southbound I-29.

Deterioration of bridge expansion joints has resulted in the need to complete repairs over the summer months. Delaying these repairs would increase the need for emergency lane closures in the future.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
