Resurfacing Scheduled for I-70 North Outer Road in Montgomery County

HANNIBAL – Weather permitting, the week of May 22, contractor crews and the Missouri Department of Transportation will start work on resurfacing Interstate 70 North Outer Road in Montgomery County from Missouri Route 161 in Danville to Clark Drive, just east of Missouri Route 19, with plans for completion by mid-June.  A 9-foot width restriction will be in place where crews are actively working. The length of improvement is 4.7 miles.

“Traffic will be reduced to one lane where crews are actively working, and motorists will be directed through the work zone with the use of flaggers and a pilot car.  This work will occur during daytime hours,” explained Missouri Department of Transportation Area Engineer Jeff Niemeyer.  “This route will carry a considerable volume of local traffic as the interchange improvement project enters the next stage of construction," he added.

Drivers will experience the following traffic impacts when traveling in this area:

  • North Outer Road of I-70/Boonslick Road, west of MO 19 and half of the entrance at Fastlane will open on May 10.  At this time, the remaining half of the entrance at Fastlane will close along with the Boonslick Road at MO 19 to work on the north roundabout.
  • South Outer Road of I-70/Tree Farm Road east of MO 19, near Love’s Travel Stop.  This closure is anticipated to remain in place for approximately three weeks.
  • The I-70 SOR, west of MO 19 is currently closed and will remain closed over the next several months until the south roundabout is complete.

The following traffic impacts will be in effect with all work occurring during the nighttime hours of 8:00 p.m. – 5:30 a.m.:

  • May 10-17,  MO 19 north of I-70 will be reduced to one lane with flaggers used for traffic control while striping and barrier wall placements are completed.  All ramps at Missouri Route 19 and access to the south outer road/Tree Farm Road will remain open. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

We ask that motorists please be attentive in work zones for their safety and the safety of highway workers.  All work is weather dependent and signs and message boards will be in place to alert motorists, as schedule changes occur.   This contract was awarded last year to Emery Sapp and Sons, Inc. in the amount of $14,655,400.

With an increased number of highway work zones in Missouri, it is important all drivers pay attention every second while driving, especially through work zones.  Know before you go and stay informed of traffic impacts on your route by checking the MoDOT Traveler Information Map.  You can also subscribe to counties, various routes or even projects online at Customer Service Signon (mo.gov).  Be sure you and all your passengers are buckled up, and please put the phone down while driving.
