MoDOT to Hold Community Briefing for Route 8 and State Street Roundabout in Desloge, MO

SIKESTON-The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold an open house community briefing from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23 to discuss improvements to the intersection of Route 8/Business Route 67 and State Street in Desloge, Missouri. The meeting will be held at Desloge City Hall, located at 300 North Lincoln St. in Desloge, Missouri.

The project includes removing the current traffic signals in this location to construct a roundabout.

“This project will be completed in an effort to improve safety and the overall efficiency of the intersection,” MoDOT Project Manager Tim Pickett said.

Pickett explained the roundabout will have bypass lanes to allow motorists who wish to turn right to avoid going through the intersection.

“The most noticeable difference for motorists will be the ability to go when there is a gap in traffic instead of waiting for the signal to cycle through,” he said.

Visitors can stop-by anytime between 4 and 6 p.m. to discuss the details of the project with the MoDOT project team.

The project is expected to be let in March 2025, with construction beginning as early as summer 2025. During construction, it is anticipated the project will be staged to allow traffic to pass through the intersection, with temporary lane closures as tie-ins to the existing pavement are completed. Completion is projected in winter 2025, weather permitting.
