ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – A resurfacing project on several routes in Holt, Gentry, Nodaway and Atchison counties is underway. Herzog Contracting Corp., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, began the project in the fall of 2022.
Beginning tomorrow, Friday, March 31, crews will begin resurfacing Route M in Gentry and Nodaway counties. The route will be closed daily in segments up to 2 miles in length through mid-April. Travelers will need to seek an alternate route during the intermittent closures.
The remaining three routes: Holt Route DD, Nodaway Route PP and Atchison Route EE are expected to begin in May. All work is anticipated to be completed by June.
The route already completed during this project include:
- Atchison Route CC from U.S. 275 to the Iowa state line
- Atchison Route Z
- Atchison Route KK
- Holt Route H
- Holt Route BB
- Holt Route T from Missouri Route 111 to Route U
All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change. Know before you go by visiting the MoDOT Traveler Information Map for work zone information and road conditions at http://traveler.modot.org/map/, or downloading from your smart phone’s app store.
This project is part of Gov. Parson’s Rural Road program. The state’s approved Fiscal Year 2023 budget provided an additional $100 million in General Revenue for work on Missouri’s low volume rural roads. Using asset management data, MoDOT has identified approximately 1,700 lane miles of low volume roads ranked in Poor Condition. These 113 locations will receive resurfacing treatments of hot mix asphalt to improve the road conditions by the end of Summer 2023.
