Germania Avenue under Interstate 55 to close for bridge reconstruction starting Tuesday, March 28

ST. LOUIS – As part of the on-going Interstate 55 bridge rehabilitation project, Germania Avenue will be closed underneath I-55 in the city of St. Louis starting Tuesday, March 28 at 9 a.m., weather permitting. This section of Germania Avenue is expected to remain closed for the next several months.

Crews will be replacing the bridge driving surface on the I-55 bridge over Germania. The southbound I-55 exit ramp to Germania remains open during construction, but traffic will only be allowed to make right turns. Drivers can proceed to Morgan Ford Road and then turn left on Carondelet Boulevard/River City Boulevard along the River Des Peres and then turn left on Alabama Avenue to access Germania south of the bridge.

This work zone is part of a multi-year project replacing or renovating 13 interstate bridges in both directions between Interstate 44 in the city of St. Louis and Lindbergh. All stages of the project are expected to conclude in early 2025.
