ST. LOUIS – Drivers traveling on Interstate 55 near the River Des Peres should be aware of increasing congestion and ramp closures as crews shift another section of I-55 as part of an on-going bridge maintenance project.
Crews will close two northbound lanes on I-55 between Weber and Virginia and shift the remaining two lanes to the southbound side of the interstate, starting Monday, January 9, at 9 a.m., weather permitting. I-55 will be down to two lanes in each direction between Weber and Virginia after this traffic shift.
At the same time, crews will close the entrance ramp from Germania to northbound I-55, as well as the northbound exit ramp to Loughborough (Exit 202C) and entrance ramp from Loughborough to northbound I-55. Those ramps are projected to remain closed through most of 2023.
This multi-year project renovates many of the bridges in both directions of I-55 between I-44 in the city of St. Louis and Lindbergh. This project will include additional lane shifts and ramp closures as crews complete work along the corridor. Information on those closures will be shared as they are implemented.
Paving along this corridor is expected to start once the work on the bridges is complete.
