HANNIBAL, MO – The Missouri Department of Transportation and its contractor, Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc., will close one lane of Interstate 70 in each direction between mile markers 174 and 176 from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the nights of December 5 and 6 to grade dirt in preparation for guard rail extension and barrier wall installation. The ramps at Missouri Route 19 will remain open. “This work is weather permitting and subject to change due to resource availability,” said MoDOT Area Engineer Jeff Niemeyer.
The work in this area is part of the new Missouri Route 19 interchange project that began a few months ago. “There will continue to be minimal traffic impacts during the project until next summer, and we will continue to keep area residents and I-70 drivers informed through local and social media,” Niemeyer said. A special video series was created to help keep drivers informed. The stage 1 construction video can be found here: MO 19 Bridge Replacement Over I-70 & Interchange Improvements - Stage 1 - YouTube.
