RESCHEDULED: Resurfacing project to begin in Linn, Putnam and Sullivan counties

Part of Gov. Parson's Rural Roads Program

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – A resurfacing project on several routes in Linn, Putnam and Sullivan counties, has been rescheduled and will now begin tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 2. The work had previously been postponed due to weather. The Missouri Department of Transportation has contracted with Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. to complete the project.

Crews plan to begin tomorrow on Putnam/Sullivan County Route KK from Route K (Putnam County) to Route EE (Sullivan County) and on Sullivan County Route M from Route 5 to Route 129.

The contractor plans to have multiple crews working for the remainder of 2022, until the temperatures drop below the optimal range for the resurfacing material. The start date for several of the routes has been determined, but the final three will depend on the speed at which the first several routes can be completed. All schedules are subject to change.

The planned order of work is as follows:

  • Putnam/Sullivan Route KK from Route K in Putnam County to Route EE in Sullivan County – starting Nov. 2
  • Sullivan County Route M from Route 5 to Route 129 – starting Nov. 2
  • Putnam County Route N from the Iowa state line to U.S. Route 136 in Livonia – starting Nov. 4
  • Putnam County Route FF from U.S. Route 136 to Route W – starting Nov. 7
  • Putnam County Route EE from U.S. Route 136 to Route K – start date to be determined
  • Putnam/Sullivan County Route BB from Route EE in Putnam County to Route K in Sullivan County – start date to be determined
  • Putnam County Route F from Route 5 to Route 129 – start date to be determined

The roadways will narrow to one lane daily, during daylight hours, with flaggers and a pilot car to direct motorists through the work zones. A 10-foot width restriction will be in place while the work zones are active.

The contractor plans to complete following routes in 2023, but an exact schedule and progression of work has not been determined. The project is expected be complete by the end of June 2023.

  • Linn County Route CC from Route O/V at the Sullivan County line to Route C
  • Linn County Route O from Route 5 in Browning to Route CC/V at the Sullivan County line
  • Linn County Route V from Route M to the end of state maintenance, except where Route V coincides with Route C
  • Sullivan County Route U from Route C to Route O at the Linn County line
  • Sullivan County Route V from Route C to Route O/CC at the Linn County line

This project is part of Gov. Parson’s Rural Roads program. The state’s approved Fiscal Year 2023 budget provided an additional $100 million in General Revenue for work on Missouri’s low volume rural roads. Using asset management data, MoDOT has identified approximately 1700 lane miles of low volume roads ranked in Poor Condition. By next summer, these 113 locations will receive resurfacing treatments of hot mix asphalt to improve the road conditions.
