Traffic Alert: Crews to close various lanes and ramps for Buck O’Neil Bridge work

JACKSON COUNTY – Crews with the Buck O’Neil Bridge replacement project will make the following traffic changes beginning on Monday, Oct. 31. These closures are part of bridge work and for moving equipment. Motorists will need to seek alternate routes during this time. All work is weather permitting.

Monday, Oct. 31

  • Crews will CLOSE the ramp from eastbound Interstate 70 to 6th Street/Broadway Blvd. from approximately 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. for bridge work.
  • Crews will close the right lane of westbound I-70 at I-35 until 3 p.m. to set up temporary barrier.

Tuesday, Nov. 1

  • Crews will close the ramp from eastbound I-70 to 6th Street/Broadway Blvd. beginning at 9 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.

Wednesday, Nov. 2

  • Crews will close the ramp from eastbound I-70 to 6th Street/Broadway Blvd. beginning at 9 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.
  • CANCELED: Crews will close the ramp from 5th Street to southbound I-35 beginning at 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. for bridge work.
  • CANCELED: Crews will close the left lane of southbound I-35 at I-70 beginning at 9 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.

Thursday, Nov. 3

  • Crews will close the ramp from eastbound I-70 to 6th Street/Broadway Blvd. beginning at 9 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.
  • Crews will close the ramp from 5th Street to southbound I-35 beginning at 9 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.
  • Crews will close the left lane of southbound I-35 at I-70 beginning at 9 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.

Friday, Nov. 4

  • Crews will close the ramp from eastbound I-70 to 6th Street/Broadway Blvd. beginning at 9 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.
  • Crews will close the ramp from 5th Street to southbound I-35 beginning at 9 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.
  • Crews will close the left lane of southbound I-35 at I-70 beginning at 9 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.

The current Buck O’Neil Memorial Bridge is a triple arch bridge carrying U.S. Route 169 over the Missouri River, and serves as a key regional connection between downtown Kansas City and communities north of the river. While safe, the bridge is nearing the end of its projected service life.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
