HANNIBAL, MO – Motorists now have the opportunity to drive across the new bridge that has been constructed over the South Wyaconda River on Scotland County Route C, approximately four miles west of Brock, which opened to traffic earlier today.
The public is invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11. The road will close briefly for this event.
“The old bridge was constructed in 1936 and was one of the oldest in our district,” said MoDOT Area Engineer Amy Crawford. “We still have a few that were built in 1932, and all these bridges are inspected each year,” she noted. The old bridge was closed in June of 2020 due to significant deterioration found during a routine inspection.
Bleigh Construction Company of Palmyra, Missouri was awarded the bridge replacement contract earlier this year in the amount of $1,043,218.
