MoDOT Hosts Public Meetings to Reveal Preliminary Design for I-55 Corridor Improvements Project

JEFFERSON COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is hosting two public information meetings to share preliminary designs for I-55 from north of Route Z near Pevely to one mile south of U.S. 67 near Crystal City and Festus.

The first meeting from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5 will be held at the Festus Public Library, 400 West Main Street, Festus, MO 63028. The public is invited to stop by this open house  at any time and pre-registration is not required. The second meeting will be held via Zoom from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6. Registration is required for the virtual meeting at www.bit.ly/register-i55. Once registered, attendees will receive the Zoom link via email.

MoDOT developed the preliminary designs after a seven-month public engagement process that identified issues requiring attention in this corridor. The same information, including project updates, will be presented at both meetings.

In July 2022, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission approved a five-year plan for improving state highways and projects that included $237 million for upgrading I-55 near Pevely to one mile south of U.S. 67 near Crystal City and Festus.

This project will address traffic and safety concerns along the corridor while accounting for future development and growth patterns in the region. The next step in this process involves preliminary design of the recommended alternative, additional study of traffic patterns, safety, roadway conditions, noise analysis, and environmental documentation. MoDOT will continue to seek input and feedback from residents and highway users in the surrounding area.

MoDOT is committed to providing equal access to this event for all participants. If you need a reasonable accommodation, please contact Project Director Justin Wolf at 314-453-5057 by Sept. 28, 2022.
