Kansas City, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) recently held a second public meeting as part of an I-70 Environmental Study Re-Evaluation for I-70 between The Paseo and U.S. 40. Members of the community were invited to the Gregg/Klice Community Center to get an update from the project team and weigh in on new ideas focused on ways to improve safety, reduce traffic congestion, and reconnect nearby neighborhoods. Community feedback was incorporated into the modified design for this section of I-70 as a result of a series of public meetings held in spring of 2022.
“The MoDOT team went to the community in March 2022 and received input from the public about the corridor and needs of the surrounding community,” said Allan Ludiker, project manager for MoDOT. “Taking that input, we’ve developed and re-visited various concepts and ideas for the corridor, and we went back to the community to get their thoughts.”
Because the previous study was completed nearly five years ago and conditions may have changed, a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) re-evaluation of the project area is required. The re-evaluation, which is scheduled to conclude in 2023, requires significant public input.
“The public’s feedback on the updates to the preferred alternative will help shape the outcome of the improvements along the I-70 corridor,” explains Tawn Nugent, a representative from TREKK Design Group. “For example, we want to know where the public thinks the pedestrian bridges should be located to best serve their neighborhoods.”
Following the public meeting, an overview video and an online survey will be posted on the project webpage for those who are unable to attend in-person at http://www.modot.org/improvei70kc. Don’t delay! The online survey will close on Friday, September 30, 2022.
