MoDOT to install temporary signal on Cave Springs interchange at I-70 starting Wednesday, August 31

ST. CHARLES COUNTY – Crews will be installing a temporary traffic signal in preparation for an upcoming lane shift on the Cave Springs interchange over Interstate 70 in St. Charles County. The signal will be placed just north of Veterans Memorial Parkway at the eastbound I-70 ramps starting Wednesday, August 31, weather permitting.

One lane on northbound Cave Springs over I-70 will be closed between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. The lane closure is expected to remain in place for one week during this time period.

The temporary signal will control traffic from the eastbound I-70 off-ramp as well as northbound and southbound Cave Springs.  There will be two right turn lanes, one controlled by the light.

The lane shift on Cave Springs over I-70 will occur in mid-September. All lanes of Cave Springs will remain open, but the shift allows crews to construct the new structure that will take Veterans Memorial Parkway under Cave Springs.

In addition to the traffic shift, one of the two left turn lanes from eastbound I-70 to northbound Cave Springs will be closed. Motorists will still be able to make a left turn from the remaining turn lane. More information will be released once a date has been identified. The traffic shift and exit lane closure will remain in place until spring 2023.

This work is part of the conversion of the Cave Springs and Zumbehl interchanges into single point urban interchanges (SPUI) for the I-70 Cave Springs to Fairgrounds Design-Build Project. When work on the interchange bridges begins, both interchanges will remain open to drivers.
