Various road closures continue for Buck O'Neil Bridge project

 

JACKSON AND CLAY COUNTIES – Crews have updated the information regarding several road closures part of the Buck O’Neil Bridge replacement project. Motorists should be prepared to follow a signed detour or seek alternate routes. All work is weather permitting.

  • Friday, Aug. 26
    • Beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 26 crews will CLOSE the ramp from eastbound I-70 to 6th Street/Broadway Blvd. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.
  • Monday, Aug. 29
    • Crews will CLOSE northbound and southbound Richards Road at the roundabout to Lou Holland Dr. beginning at 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 29 for approximately one week for utility work.
    • NEW: Beginning at 9 a.m., crews will CLOSE the ramp from eastbound I-70 to 6th Street/Broadway Blvd. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.
  • Tuesday, Aug. 30
    • NEW: Beginning at 9 a.m., crews will CLOSE the ramp from eastbound I-70 to 6th Street/Broadway Blvd. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 31
    • NEW: Beginning at 9 a.m., crews will CLOSE the ramp from eastbound I-70 to 6th Street/Broadway Blvd. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.
  • Thursday, Sept. 1
    • RESCHEDULED: Beginning at 6 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1, crews will CLOSE northbound and southbound Broadway Blvd. from approximately 4th Street to Woodswether Road until approximately late September 2022. There will be a signed detour. This work was originally scheduled to begin on Monday, Aug. 29.
      • This closure will allow for construction of the future connection of 3rd Street to Broadway.
    • NEW: Beginning at 9 a.m., crews will CLOSE the ramp from eastbound I-70 to 6th Street/Broadway Blvd. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.
  • Friday, Sept. 2
    • NEW: Beginning at 9 a.m., crews will CLOSE the ramp from eastbound I-70 to 6th Street/Broadway Blvd. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.

The current Buck O’Neil Memorial Bridge is a triple arch bridge carrying U.S. Route 169 over the Missouri River, and serves as a key regional connection between downtown Kansas City and communities north of the river. While safe, the bridge is nearing the end of its projected service life.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
