ST. JOSEPH, Mo – Carroll County Route UU southwest of Bosworth is scheduled to close soon. The Missouri Department of Transportation contracted with Capital Paving & Construction, LLC to complete a project to replace the decks of the Big Creek and Shootman Creek bridges. The contractor plans to close Route UU to all traffic on Tuesday, Sept. 6, between County Roads 291 and 230. The roadway is expected to reopen in late December.
At their most recent inspection, the decks of both bridges were rated in poor condition. Both are striped for one lane of traffic and the Big Creek Bridge's condition limits vehicles more than 16 tons to only 15 miles per hour on the bridge.
Planned improvements will widen both bridges to 22 feet to accommodate two-way traffic and bring their railings up to current standards. In addition, the superstructure of the Big Creek Bridge will be strengthened, where necessary, to remove the load posting.
During the closure, motorists will need to use an alternate route.
All work is weather dependent, and schedules are subject to change. Learn more about the project at modot.org/carroll-county-route-uu-bridge-rehabilitations-over-big-creek-and-shootman-creek.
