UPDATED SCHEDULE: Long-term road closures scheduled for Buck O'Neil Bridge project on Aug. 22 and 29

Crews have updated the information regarding several road closures part of the Buck O’Neil Bridge replacement project beginning next week. All work is weather permitting.

  • Monday, Aug. 22
    • Beginning at 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, crews will CLOSE eastbound and westbound 4th Street from Washington St. to Beardsley Rd. until approximately late September 2022. There will be a signed detour.
  • Tuesday, Aug. 23
    • NEW: Beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23, crews will CLOSE the ramp from eastbound I-70 to 6th Street/Broadway Blvd. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 24
    • NEW: Beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24 crews will CLOSE the ramp from eastbound I-70 to 6th Street/Broadway Blvd. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.
  • Thursday, Aug. 25
    • Updated NEW: Beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25 crews will CLOSE the ramp from eastbound I-70 to 6th Street/Broadway Blvd. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.
  • Friday, Aug. 26
    • Updated NEW: Beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 26 crews will CLOSE the ramp from eastbound I-70 to 6th Street/Broadway Blvd. until approximately 3 p.m. for bridge work.
  • Monday, Aug. 29
    • SCHEDULE CHANGED: Beginning at 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 29, crews will CLOSE northbound and southbound Broadway Blvd. from approximately 4th Street to Woodswether Rd. until approximately late September 2022. There will be a signed detour.

The current Buck O’Neil Memorial Bridge is a triple arch bridge carrying U.S. Route 169 over the Missouri River, and serves as a key regional connection between downtown Kansas City and communities north of the river. While safe, the bridge is nearing the end of its projected service life.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
