HANNIBAL - A resurfacing project will begin as soon as August 18 on U.S. Route 54 in Audrain County from Route J in Mexico to Route 19 south junction near Martinsburg. Work within the city limits and extending to near the airport will be completed during nighttime hours of 7:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m. when traffic volumes are lower. The remaining work to be done during daytime hours. The total length of improvement is 11.57 miles.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane at the location where crews are actively working for the duration of the project. For the safety of the crews and the traveling public, we would like to remind drivers to be attentive in work zones and put down your cell phones to eliminate distractions.
Flaggers and a pilot car will direct motorists through the work zone. A 10-foot width restriction will be in place for the duration of the project. All work is weather dependent and schedules are subject to change. Signs and message boards will be in place to alert motorists, as schedule changes occur.
The $6.1M contract, awarded last year to Emery Sapp & Sons, includes two additional resurfacing projects in Audrain County at the following locations:
- Route J - Resurfacing from Bus 54 in Mexico to U.S. Route 54 at Basinger Corner, the total length of improvement being 17.8 miles.
- Route KK – resurfacing from Route J to Route B near Rush Hill. The total length of improvement is 6.7 miles.
