ST. LOUIS – Drivers who use Virginia Avenue in the city of St. Louis to access southbound I-55 will need to find alternate routes as the department closed the ramp for six weeks because of safety concerns with the current work along I-55,
As the department extended lane closures along I-55 further to the south of the weekend, crews evaluated how safely traffic from Virginia Avenue could merge with traffic on the reduced interstate through lanes during the morning rush period. After that evaluation, the department determined to close the ramp today for safety.
Drivers can use Loughborough to continue onto southbound I=55 at this time. The ramp is expected to reopen by early September.
