Update on Lane Restrictions on Interstate 70 at High Hill in Montgomery County

East and Westbound at mm 180 will be one lane tomorrow morning

HANNIBAL, MO – Tomorrow, Wednesday, July 6, at 6 a.m., weather permitting, the Missouri Department of Transportation’s contractor again will close a lane in each direction on Interstate 70 at High Hill, mile marker 180, to continue work on the overpass that was hit by a tractor trailer on June 23.  Crews will work with daily morning lane closures for the next two weeks to complete the repairs. The lanes on I-70 are restricted to 10 feet wide.  All ramps at Route F/High Hill interchange are open, but the overpass/bridge remains closed to traffic.

Weather permitting, here is the anticipated daily lane closure schedule. Dates may extend due to weather delays:

  • Wednesday, July 6 through Saturday, July 9, one lane closed in each direction on I-70

    from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. daily
  • Monday, July 11 through Wednesday, July 13, one lane closed eastbound on I-70

    from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. daily

Crews will be working in the median each day after both lanes of I-70 reopen at 11 a.m. Motorists are advised to slow down and watch for construction work in the area.  Due the volume of traffic on I-70, drivers are encouraged to consider alternate routes during the morning hours when one lane is closed.

Route F will reopen after the new column/concrete has time to strengthen, probably within 5 days.

On the evening of Thursday, June 23, a tractor trailer crashed and hit the center bridge column for the Route F bridge over I-70 at High Hill.  By Saturday, June 25, MoDOT secured an emergency contractor to support the bridge and prepare for the emergency repairs.
