MoDOT to Hold Public Meeting to Discuss Upcoming Roundabout Project in Ava, MO

SIKESTON-The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 13 to discuss constructing a roundabout in Ava, Missouri. The meeting will be held at Ava City Hall, located at 404 S. Jefferson St, Ava, Missouri.

The proposed project includes constructing a new roundabout at the intersection of Route 14, Business Route 5, N. Jefferson Street and Bacorn Avenue. This project will also include drainage and pedestrian improvements in the vicinity of the proposed roundabout. The proposed roundabout will have designated pedestrian crossings on N. Jefferson Street and Bacorn Avenue.

Visitors can stop-by anytime between 4 and 6 p.m. to discuss the details of the project with the MoDOT project team.

Tentatively, the project is anticipated to be let in March 2023, with construction beginning as early as summer 2023.

Most of the roundabout can be constructed with minimal impacts to traffic. However, it would be beneficial to close the intersection as the portion of the new roundabout that overlaps the existing roadway is constructed and as tie-ins are made to the existing roadway. Currently, MoDOT is exploring options for traffic control, including a potential closure during certain stages of construction.

Completion is anticipated in November 2023.

A project webpage with additional information, including the meeting handout and an opportunity to comment, is available at www.modot.org/AvaRoundabout.
