HANNIBAL - Weather permitting, the week of June 27, contractor crews will begin work on a 3.7 mile resurfacing and pavement repair project located on Missouri Route 79 in Lincoln County. The project will extend from Route N to 0.8 mile north of Route C near Old Monroe.
In observance of the Independence Day holiday weekend, work will be suspended beginning Friday, July 1 and resume Tuesday, July 5. While signing work will occur during daylight hours, all resurfacing work is scheduled to occur during nighttime hours between 7:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m., when traffic volumes are lower. Work on Route 79 is expected to be complete by late August.
“Traffic will be reduced to one lane where crews are actively working. Flaggers and a pilot car will be utilized to direct traffic through the work zone," explained Missouri Department of Transportation Area Engineer Jeff Niemeyer.
All work is weather dependent, and schedules are subject to change. “For the safety of the crews and the traveling public, we would like to remind drivers to be attentive in work zones and put down your cell phones to eliminate distractions,” he added.
The $8.5M contract, awarded to Magruder Paving, LLC., includes an additional resurfacing project, located on 25.5 miles of northbound U.S. Route 61 in Pike and Lincoln counties, from Route V to 0.4 miles south of Route UU in Pike County near Bowling Green, which began earlier this month.
