ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – A section of southbound Interstate 29 near the Atchison/Holt County line near Corning will narrow to one lane for pavement repairs due to a pavement blow-up. Crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation made temporary repairs today and will return tomorrow, Tuesday, June 14, to begin permanent repairs. One lane of southbound I-29 will be closed through 9 a.m. Friday, June 17, with a 14-foot width restriction in place
A pavement blow-up occurs when the roadway surface expands at a crack or joint where moisture has seeped in. The crack weakens the pavement, and the heat causes the pavement to buckle and warp.
All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.
