Missouri High School Students Will Hold Mock DWI Crash

 

CAPE GIRARDEAU – Students from several local schools will participate in a mock DWI crash during the TRACTION – teens taking action to prevent traffic crashes – youth traffic safety leadership training conference in Cape Girardeau, June 9-11.  Assisting in the mock crash will be Cape Girardeau City Police Department, Cape Girardeau City Fire Department, Junior Sinn Auto Parts, LLC., Cape Girardeau County Private Ambulance and the Cape Girardeau County Coroner.  

 

WHO:  Students from the following high schools: Leopold High School, Lesterville High School, Oran High School, Twin Rivers High School, New Madrid High School, and Jackson High School

WHAT:  TRACTION Youth Traffic Safety Leadership Training Mock DWI Crash

WHEN:  Friday, June 10, 2022, 10:45 a.m.

WHERE:  Drury Plaza Hotel Conference Center, Cape Girardeau, MO

WHY:  From 2019-2021, there were 55 fatal crashes involving a substance impaired driver under 21. Sixty-three people were killed in these crashes.

    TRACTION is a statewide program sponsored by the Missouri Department of Transportation and the Cape Girardeau Police Department committed to empowering youth to promote safe driving habits while preventing underage drinking, impaired driving and driver inattention.

After an initial training session, TRACTION youth create and implement action plans for school and community activities in an effort to reduce unsafe driving habits and traffic deaths.
