Newton County Route E/Shoal Creek Bridge CLOSED for Rehabilitation Beginning Week of June 6

Newton County – The Newton County Route E bridge over Shoal Creek north of Granby will be CLOSED for up to 105 days to have its driving surface resealed starting the week of June 6, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

This bridge is included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.

Contractor crews will reseal the bridge deck/driving surface. The project also includes adding new barrier walls, striping and installing new guardrail at this bridge and at the Route E bridge over the Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad tracks just north of Shoal Creek.

Traffic Impacts:

  • All lanes of Newton County Route E CLOSED where crews are working
  • Drivers will have access to entrances on either side of the work zone, but will not be able to drive through the work zone
  • Drivers will be directed to a signed detour using U.S. Route 60, Missouri Route 59 and Newton County Route J
  • Old Highway E will be CLOSED to traffic between Gum Road and Route E (Main Street) in Granby for the duration of the project
  • Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone
  • Drivers urged to find alternate routes to avoid work zone
  • Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts

Weather and/or scheduling delays will alter the work schedule.

The Shoal Creek bridge was built in 1976 and carries approximately 1,400 vehicles per day.

  • Completion Date: November 1, 2022
  • Total project cost: $1.99 million
