Boat ramp will be inaccessible up to 60 days during project
HANNIBAL - Weather permitting, May 16, the Missouri Department of Transportation and it's contractor will begin work to repair a roadway embankment slide and replace culverts on Route U in Monroe County about 1 mile from Missouri Route 107 just west of Florida.
“The contractor will begin with two culvert replacements and slide repair west of the Route U Mark Twain Lake boat ramp and then move to the third culvert location east of the boat ramp,” explained Missouri Department of Transportation Area Engineer Jeff Kroner. “When they move to the third culvert location, Mark Twain Lake will be inaccessible from Route U because the highway will remain closed on the west side until all paving and guardrail has been completed,” Kroner said.
A signed detour has been in place since last July when a section of the road collapsed due to unstable soil conditions. The detour will remain in place while work is being completed through mid- August. Schedule changes could occur due to weather or material availability.
The $822,543 contract was awarded to Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc., for the grading, pavement and culvert replacement project earlier this month.
