MoDOT to close, shift northbound I-55 lanes in city next week

ST. LOUIS – Drivers heading north on Interstate 55 into the city of St. Louis should be aware of increased congestion as crews shift traffic as part of on-going bridge maintenance.

Crews will close an additional northbound lane on I-55 between Virginia and I-44 (for a total of two) and shift the remaining two lanes west to the southbound side of the interstate, starting Wednesday, April 20, at 8 p.m., weather permitting.

The lane shift should be complete by 5 a.m. Thursday.

At the same time, crews will close the ramps to 3200 Broadway (Exit 206B) and Arsenal (Exit 206C) will also be closed. Those ramps, as well as the ramp from Lafayette to southbound I-55 are projected to remain closed through the remainder of the year.

This project renovates many of the bridges in both directions of I-55 between I-44 in the city of St. Louis and Lindbergh. This project will include additional lane shifts and ramp closures as crews complete work along the corridor.  Information on those closures will be shared as they are determined.

Paving along this corridor is expected to start once the work on the bridges is complete.
