SPRINGFIELD – As the busy road work season gets underway across Missouri, the Missouri Department of Transportation kicks off the 2022 Work Zone Awareness Week (April 11-15) with a media event planned in Springfield Monday, April 11.
This year MoDOT will be joined by partners in law enforcement, cities and counties to help kick off this important week. Field employees will share their stories of working alongside the traveling public, and the close calls they’ve experienced.
Springfield Kick-Off Event:
- 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 11
- Transportation Management Center of the Ozarks, 1107 West Chestnut Expressway, Springfield
- Speakers: MoDOT Southwest District Engineer Steve Campbell, Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Michael McClure, and City of Springfield Assistant Public Works Director Kirk Juranas
In 2021, 17 people died in work zones on Missouri roadways. Since 2000, 34 MoDOT employees have been killed in the line of duty, 16 of them taking place in work zones.
Media partners will have an opportunity to take photos/film of work zone vehicles and signage before and after the media event. All speakers will be available for individual interviews regarding work zone safety directly following the scheduled media event.
