MoDOT to close I-44 in city over weekend to remove Broadway bridge

ST. LOUIS – Drivers heading to events in downtown St. Louis should give themselves some extra time to get around next weekend, as crews will close a section of I-44 to remove the Broadway Bridge over the interstate.

Interstate 44 will be closed in both directions from roughly the Eads Bridge to the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge the weekend of February 11-14 to remove the bridge and ramp from the express lanes to Broadway.

Currently, the southbound Broadway Bridge over the interstate is closed, as are the express lanes into downtown.

Crews will start closing ramps at about 6 p.m. Friday, February 11.  The ramps from the Martin Luther King Bridge and Biddle heading north on (eastbound) I-44 and the ramps from 11th Street heading south to (westbound) I-44 will be closed. The ramp to Broadway will remain open only for traffic going to the Convention Center.

Crews will close both directions of I-44, starting at about 7:30 p.m. Friday, February 11 with all interstate lanes closed at 8 p.m. All interstate lanes and ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, February 14. One express lane will reopen by late February. Southbound Broadway over the interstate remains closed until spring 2023.

During the closure, drivers heading north on (eastbound) I-44 will exit to Lumiere Place Boulevard at Exit #292. They will follow Lumiere Place until it becomes North Broadway and then follow North Broadway to North Market Street. They will take a left on North Market Street , a right on the outer road to enter westbound I-70.

Drivers heading south on eastbound I-70 will exit to Tucker Boulevard.  They will follow Tucker Boulevard through the city to Lafayette.  They will turn right on Lafayette and be able to get to either southbound I-55 or westbound I-44. For drivers heading to the Convention Center, there will be one lane heading south on (westbound) I-44 only to the exit to Broadway.
