PLATTE COUNTY – Just in time for the extended Thanksgiving holiday weekend, the Missouri Department of Transportation has reopened several lanes and ramps associated with the replacement of the I-29 Bridge over 56th St. in Platte County.
Crews have reopened the following:
- Northbound and southbound lanes of I-29 over 56th
- The 56th exit at I-29
- The NB I-635 ramp to northbound I-29 (access to KCI Airport from KS)
- The NW Gateway (Route A) ramp to northbound I-29.
However, the 56th St. underpass (under I-29) remains closed. Crews still have some work to complete. Crews expect to open 56th St. by December 1.
The replacement of the I-29 Bridge over 56th St. is part of a dual bridge replacement project. Crews will also be replacing the I-29 and Waukomis Drive Bridge. Work on that bridge is expected to begin in March of 2022.
These bridge replacement projects are included in Gov. Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.
