The purpose of this message is to invite you to participate in a webinar on “FHWA’s Active Transportation Funding and Finance Toolkit.”  Please share this with your State DOT, MPO, and other public agency contacts. The webinar will take place on Tuesday, November 23, from 2:30 – 4:00 PM ET.  The registration information is provided below.

Transportation agencies frequently face unique challenges in securing adequate funding to facilitate timely project delivery of standalone active transportation projects. This webinar will highlight an upcoming web-based toolkit of innovative strategies to fund and finance bicycle and pedestrian projects such as value capture, bond financing, public private partnerships, Federal funding options, and local planning assistance grants. The webinar will feature a demonstration of the toolkit, highlight three case study examples, and provide details on the various funding sources and financing methods to consider when building out multimodal networks.

A report that will accompany the toolkit includes a literature review, six case studies, and a peer exchange summary that highlights innovative methods used to successfully implement bicycle and pedestrian projects throughout the U.S.

The webinar includes presenters from the FHWA co-sponsors of the research, Shari Schaftlein, Office of Planning, Environment, and Realty and Mark Sullivan, Center for Innovative Finance Support.  They will provide an overview and frame the discussion, the research consultant team will provide a demonstration of the toolkit, and City presenters and topics covered include: Laura Dierenfield-City of Austin TX, Mobility Bonds; Nick Oyler-City of Memphis, TN, Hampline Bicycle and Pedestrian Corridor Project; and, Blake Sanders-Consultant to Pickens, SC, The Doodle Trail.
