Traffic Switch to New Garth Avenue Bridge Set for Tuesday Night

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Traffic will be switched to the new Interstate 70 bridge at Garth Avenue on Tuesday night. The work will require the westbound I-70 on ramp at Providence to be closed between 9 p.m. on Tuesday and 5 a.m. on Wednesday.

The bridge was slid into its permanent location on May 18. The traffic switch was originally schedule to happen tonight, but was postponed due to rain in the forecast.

Nighttime, single-lane closures of eastbound and westbound Interstate 70 will also take place Tuesday through Thursday to allow construction of barrier curbs.

The new “dogbone” interchange at Range Line and I-70 opened this morning. The interchange, sometimes called a double roundabout interchange, consists of two tear-shaped roundabouts that join together to form a single roundabout. Drivers entering the roundabout are reminded they must yield to all traffic in the roundabout before entering. More information about roundabouts, including video animations showing both the old and new Range Line interchange, can be found at www.modot.org/ColumbiaBridges.

In addition, motorists are asked to continue to use caution at Business Loop and I-70 as flagging operations will be necessary during daytime hours this week.
