HANNIBAL – The NE Coalition for Roadway Safety will hold its quarterly meeting on Thursday, October 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. via WebEx. The executive committee of the Coalition will provide updates on specific areas, and anyone interested in helping to reduce fatalities on Missouri roads is encouraged to attend.
“To date, 84% of those who have died on the road in northeast Missouri were not wearing a seat belt, so our focus in this meeting is to review and finalize the Buckle Up Phone Down Challenge Day action plan,” said Coalition Facilitator Marisa Ellison. The same statewide statistic is 67%. BUPD Challenge Day will be held Friday, October 22, and this is the 5th year for the important safety event which involves many different safety partners, communities and businesses.
The Coalition's four focus areas include speeding, distracted driving, seat belt use and impaired driving. More information about these can be found in Missouri’s highway safety strategic plan titled “Show-Me Zero."
“Unfortunately, fatalities on our roads this year have increased over last year, and even one fatality is too many, so we appreciate all who are interested in helping keep safe driving awareness on top of everyone’s minds,” Ellison said.
If interested in joining the meeting, please email marisa.ellison@modot.mo.gov and connection information will be sent.
