Old 40 Highway reduced to one lane in both directions from Route Z to Route D beginning Oct. 4

LAFAYETTE COUNTY – Missouri Department of Transportation will reduce Highway 40 to one lane in both directions from Route Z to Route D beginning Oct. 4 through the end of October.

MoDOT will use portable traffic signals to direct traffic. Traffic going north and south on Route D Bridge over Interstate 70 will also be down to one lane in both directions during this time.

This will be the third and final closure on Route 131 to complete the grading and shoulder widening. There will be a signed detour on Route HH, Route Z, and Route 50.

This is a permitted project being funded by Love’s Travel Stop in Bate’s City. The project is shifting Highway 40 to be farther away from the bridge and optimizing the turning radius for trucks driving onto the bridge.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching, or mowing. They can also be short-term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
