CLAY COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation will make the following traffic changes as part of a project to replace the NE 53rd Terrace Bridge over I-435 in Clay County.

Crews will close two lanes of southbound I-435 between 48th St. and 69 Highway from 9pm, Tuesday, September 14 and continue until 5am, Wednesday, September 15 for bridge girder placement work.

Crews will close two lanes of northbound I-435 between 48th St. and 69 Highway from 9pm, Wednesday, September 15 and continue until 5am, Thursday, September 16 for bridge girder placement work.

One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction. However, motorists could experience intermittent rolling roadblocks/closures of up to 20 minutes to accommodate movement of equipment and materials. Please plan ahead.

Crews are replacing the old bridge, which was built in 1969 and had reached its projected service life. The new bridge will include two, 12-foot lanes with four-foot shoulders and a six-foot sidewalk on the south side of the bridge. This project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2021.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
