Expect Lane Closures, Traffic Delays on Routes 249 & FF in Joplin Beginning Sept. 12

Joplin – Drivers should expect lane closures and traffic delays during a project to repair three bridges on Missouri Route 249 and Jasper County Route FF (32nd Street) beginning September 12, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Contractor crews will repair bridges and lay high friction surface treatments on the bridge decks/driving surfaces.

Here’s what drivers can expect during these projects:

Northbound Route 249 over I-44:

  • When: Sunday, Sept. 12-Friday, Oct. 15
    • Nighttime hours (6 p.m.-7 a.m.) when crews are closing lanes on I-44 to work under Route 249 bridge
    • Daytime hours (7 a.m.-7 p.m.) when crews are working on the driving lanes of Route 249 bridge
  • Traffic Impacts:
    • I-44 traffic under Route 249 bridge reduced to one lane while crews are working under the bridge
    • I-44 speed limit reduced to 60 mph
    • Northbound 249 traffic reduced to one lane while crews resurface bridge over I-44
    • Route 249 speed limit reduced to 60 mph
    • Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching work zone
    • No signed detour
    • Drivers urged to find alternate routes to avoid work zone

Route FF (32nd Street) over I-44:

  • When: 7 a.m.-7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 30-Friday, Oct. 8
  • Traffic Impacts:
    • Route FF reduced to one lane in each direction where crews are working
    • Route FF speed limit reduced to 40 mph
    • No signed detour
    • Drivers urged to find alternate routes to avoid work zone

Route FF (32nd Street) over I-49:

  • When: 7 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 20-Friday, Sept. 24 & Thursday, Oct. 7-Friday, Oct. 22
  • Traffic Impacts:
    • I-49 traffic under Route FF bridge reduced to one lane while crews are working under the bridge
    • I-49 speed limit reduced to 60 mph
    • Route FF reduced to one lane in each direction where crews are working
    • Route FF speed limit reduced to 40 mph
    • No signed detour
    • Drivers urged to find alternate routes to avoid work zone

Weather and/or construction delays could alter the work schedule.

  • Total project cost – $1.04 million
  • Contract completion date – November 1, 2021
