Route 54/MNA RR Bridge CLOSED in Nevada Beginning the Week of Sept. 6 for Rehab Project

Nevada – Drivers should look for alternate routes when the U.S. Route 54 bridge over the Missouri & Northern Arkansas Railroad CLOSES the week of September 6, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

This bridge is included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program, which will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.

Contractor crews will remove the bridge deck/driving surface and replace it with a new surface. The contractor also will install new barrier walls, sidewalks, lighting, fences and guardrails at the ends of the bridge.

The current structure was built in 1963 and is experiencing increasing deterioration. Approximately 15,640 vehicles cross the bridge daily.

Traffic impacts:

  • All lanes of Route 54 over the bridge will be CLOSED beginning the week of September 6 for the duration of the project
  • Drivers will have access to entrances on either end of the bridge, but will not be able to drive through the work zone
  • Drivers will be directed to a signed detour along Loop 49 (Osage Boulevard), Business Loop 54 (Centennial Boulevard), Austin Street and I-49
  • Signs and message boards will alert drivers to the bridge closing

Weather and/or scheduling conflicts could alter the work schedule.

Project information:

  • Prime contractor: Radmacher Brothers Excavation, Pleasant Hill
  • Total project cost: $4 million
  • Contract completion date: Spring 2022
