HANNIBAL - Weather permitting, Monday, August 16, Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. will begin the resurfacing phase of work on an improvement project located on Route B in Lewis County. The project includes 12.3 miles of resurfacing from U.S. Route 61 at Canton to U.S. Route 61 at LaGrange, as well as bringing sections of the area in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
ADA improvements were completed earlier this summer which included sidewalk replacements on the north end of Canton along with improvements to cross walks at several intersections in Canton and two corners in La Grange, as well as adding wheelchair ramps.
“Resurfacing will consist of a one-inch overlay on Route B, outside the city limits of Canton and LaGrange. During this phase, the old surface will be milled off and new asphalt will be placed immediately. This mill and fill operation will occur within the city limits of the two municipalities with no milled areas to remain open overnight”, said MoDOT Area Engineer Amy Crawford. During this time, traffic will be reduced to one lane where crews are active. “We ask drivers to slow down through our work zone and pay attention as everyone’s safety depends on it”, she added. Changeable message boards, signs, flaggers and a pilot vehicle will be used for traffic control. The resurfacing phase of work is scheduled to be completed by late September.
