Roadside work to shift traffic on the north Belt Highway

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Contractors from Phillips Hardy, Inc., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, plan to shift traffic on U.S. Route 169 (Belt Highway) between Karnes Road and Floral Avenue for a culvert repair project beginning Monday, Aug. 16. Work is scheduled to continue through Oct. 1, 2021.

Expected traffic impacts during the project:

  • The southbound outside lane will be closed
  • Southbound traffic will be shifted to the middle turn lane and the inside southbound lane
  • No left turns will be permitted from the Belt Highway to any businesses or side streets in the project limits
    • Drivers may only access businesses on the east side of the Belt Highway from the northbound lanes and businesses on the west side of the Belt Highway may only be accessed from the southbound lanes
  • Northbound traffic will not be shifted
  • No left turn from northbound Belt Highway to westbound Karnes Road

Drivers should expect delays and may wish to find an alternate route, especially during peak traffic times. Motorists are advised to remain alert and follow all roadway signing and traffic control devices. The work zone, traffic shift, and turning restrictions will be in place around-the-clock until the work is completed.

All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.
